C and Z Purlins

Why should galvanized steel matter to you?

Galvanized steel is a result of steel dipped in a liquid Zinc coating that keeps the material from rusting. This makes the purlins more durable, safe in the worst of rains, and easier maintenance. Based on the shape, purlins are of two types- C and Z Purlins. The C purlins are in the shape of a ‘C’, whereas the Z shape of purlins is in the shape of a ‘Z’. Generally, C purlins are used to make the main portal frames of a purlin shed. Purlins are best suited for sheds that are less than 12 meters. But some manufacturers sell design up to 24-meter in span. But the increased length decreases the strength, making it less resistant to nasty weather.

Manufacturers have found a way to strengthen the shed, by placing two C-Sections back to back. This results in extra pieces and extra parts result in an increase in building costs. The increase in price is also due to the increase in the time it takes to put all the pieces together.

Let us now look at a few pros of Purlin.
